DirectionsThe historical Chianti is the area right in the middle of Tuscany, between the cities of Florence, Siena and Arezzo, and it consists of the three municipalities of Castellina in Chianti, Radda in Chianti and Gaiole in Chianti.
How to get here:
The airports of Florence, Pisa and Rome give convenient access to the area.
From Florence; follow the A1 motorway to Rome, then take the exit marked ”Valdarno”.
At Montevarchi (a couple of kilometers further on across the river), take the
SS 408 highway (the Chiantigiana) towards Gaiole. At the crossroads
at the top of the ridge, either proceed towards Gaiole or go right towards
Radda / Castellina
From Rome; follow the A1 motorway towards Florence, and take the exit marked ”Valdichiana” in
the direction of Siena. Follow the ”superstrada” towards Siena,
taking the exit marked ”Castelnuovo Berardenga” and proceeding
on the SS 484 highway towards Gaiole. Having passed the Castello di Brolio
winecellars on your left, continue 5 km until you reach the SS 408. Go right
towards Gaiole. After 2 km either proceed towards Gaiole or go left towards
Radda / Castellina.
From Siena; follow the highway to the east of Siena towards Montevarchi / Gaiole.
A few kilometers before Gaiole, the road forks towards Radda / Castellina and
Gaiole.
From Florence: take the local commuter train to Montevarchi and proceed by
bus to Gaiole, Radda or Castellina.
From Rome: either change at Chiusi and proceed to Siena or go to Montevarchi
and proceed by bus to Gaiole, Radda or Castellina.
