The SS408, known as the old Chiantigiana, which runs parallel to the river Massellone and at times, to the river Arbia is the "Strada dei Castelli" or the Road of the Castles which can be seen on the hilltops of the surrounding area.The Road of the Castles is a tourist promotion project developed by the comune of Gaiole in Chianti, drawing its inspiration from the surprising number of castles, fortified farm houses and fortified Abbeys in the area. Five itineraries have been developed and provide a very pleasant way to discover the architecture, history and present way of life of this part of the Chianti area.
